achilles side chair

I came upon inspiration for this piece when I was working on a classic easy boy chair that rocks or leans back. I decided that I could easily capture the function on a different type of chair — one whose frame rocked back on its back legs. The name Achilles came from the Achilles tendon, because I designed those legs to be elevated, almost as if they were wearing heels. The webbing is inspired by the classic Jen Risom chair — I included the red ribbon to pay homage to his lounge. People can choose to sit in my chair the normal way, or they can choose to lean back and lounge, like I do when I’m home in Savannah with my friends, sitting on a dock drinking a beer while the sun sets over the marsh.
